For the young and talented, Indonesian rapper, singer, record producer and songwriter Rich Brian. He is best known for his viral debut single "Dat $tick", which was first released in 2016. The single was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America. Brian's second album The Sailor, released July 26, 2019. “Kids” is a track from the album.
Our son wrote, “I’ve watched @brianimanuel from the first day he put out a song and simultaneously inspired and confused the internet.
I saw a kid that looked like me believing in himself. I hoped that one day we’d work together. He inspired me to believe a little stronger in myself.
One album later, the opportunity for Sylvia and I to work with Brian and @88rising appeared. At no better time. At a time when both our collective messages could dance in unison. We worked on two projects together. This is the first borne out of this collaboration.
When we shot this performance, it didn’t just feel like a typical party in a music video - the roof shook beneath us as hundreds of locals began to realise what Brian was saying. They jumped and they roared. We all just absorbed the moment. We cried.
This song is an anthem to quiet the doubt and dismissal of others and the doubt in yourself. It brought together not just the kids of Indonesia, but the kids of Asia. It truly inspired a continent.
This is just the start. Thanks for this moment, Brian."
